Types of GKS Scholarship

The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) offers two types of scholarships for international students:

Master’s Degree

  • Period: 3 years
  • Start Date: September 1, 2024
  • End Date: August 31, 2027
  • Includes: 1 year of Korean language + 2 years of degree program

Doctoral Degree

  • Period: 4 years
  • Start Date: September 1, 2024
  • End Date: August 31, 2028
  • Includes: 1 year of Korean language + 3 years of degree program

Qualifications:

To be eligible for the Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), applicants must meet the following General requirements:

  • Korean Citizenship: Korean citizens are not eligible to apply.
  • Age Limit: Candidates must be under 40 years of age.
  • Master’s Program: Must hold a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • Doctoral Program: Must hold a master’s degree or an equivalent qualification.
  • Research Program: Must have received an invitation from a partner university.
  • Previous Scholarships: Individuals who have already received a Korean scholarship are not eligible to apply.
  • Health: Candidates should be in good health.

  • Liberal Arts and Social Science majors: 210,000 KRW per semester

  4. Global Korean Studies

Applicants must submit the following documents and certificates by registered mail, ensuring they are received by the application deadline:

Documents to be Completed

  • Application Form
  • Personal Statement
  • Study Plan
  • Recommendation Letter
  • Application Agreement
  • Personal Medical Assessment

Submission Requirement:

  • All forms must be completed in English or Korean with the applicant’s signature.
  • No need for apostille or consular confirmation.
  • Number of Documents to be Submitted: One original copy of each required document.

Certificates

  • Required Certificates: Graduation Certificates, Academic Transcripts, Proof of Nationality, etc.
  • For documents in English or Korean, no additional certification is required.
  • For documents in other languages, you need to provide either the original document or its certified translation with official certification. Both the original and its certified translation must be submitted.
  • If you are from a country that is part of the Convention on Consular Legalization, you need to have your documents certified by a relevant authority. If this is not possible, use consular confirmation.

  • Submit one certified or consular-confirmed certificate for each type of document.
