Qualifications:

To qualify for the Foreign Language Teaching Assistant (FLTA) Program, applicants must meet specific criteria.

1. Must be Filipino citizens.
2. Must be teachers of English, or in training to become teachers of English, based outside of Metro Manila.
3. Must be residing in the Philippines throughout the nomination and selection process.
4. Must possess the equivalent of a U.S. Bachelor’s degree with a good academic record; Master’s degrees are highly desirable at many institutions.
5. Fluency in English is mandatory. A score of no less than 90 (iBT) on the TOEFL is required.
6. Must be able to demonstrate maturity, dependability, integrity, and professionalism.
7. Should be energetic, early-career educators capable of succeeding in the dual role of being a teaching assistant and a student.
8. Must commit to returning to the Philippines upon completion of the nine-month program.
9. The FLTA Program does not provide J-2 sponsorship for dependents.

This letter should confirm university awareness and support of your participation in the program, grant official leave (preferably with pay), and indicate your return to teaching status upon completion of the program in the United States.
