Qualifications:
Before applying for the PMMA Entrance Examination, applicants must ensure that they meet the academy’s eligibility requirements.
- Must be a natural-born Filipino citizen, either male or female, and physically fit.
- Must be single, never married, and have no children.
- Must have no criminal record or pending case against the law or the state.
- Must be at least 17 years old but not more than 23 years old upon enrollment on August 1.
- Must be a Grade 12 graduating student or a college-level student.
- Must have a minimum height of 160 cm (5’3″) for males or 155 cm (5’1″) for females.
- Must have a Body Mass Index (BMI) below 25.
- Must have a good academic record.
- Must not have previously enrolled at the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA).
The Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) has established specific qualifications to identify candidates who are academically capable, physically fit, and prepared for its rigorous maritime education and training program.
Requirements:
To apply for the PMMA Entrance Examination, applicants must prepare and submit the following documentary requirements. Ensure that all documents are complete and accurate to avoid delays in the application process.
General Requirements
- Recent 2×2 colored photograph (front view, with name tag, white background)
- Photocopy of PSA-issued Birth Certificate
- ₱500 non-refundable application fee
For Current Grade 12 Students
- Certification from the School Principal verifying current enrollment
- Photocopy of Grade 11 Report Card
For Grade 12 Graduates and First-Year College Students
- Photocopy of Senior High School Diploma
- Photocopy of Grade 12 Report Card
For Current College Students
- Photocopy of Certificate of Registration (COR) or Registration Form
- Certified True Copy of Grades
For College Graduates
- Photocopy of College Diploma
- Photocopy of Transcript of Records (TOR)
Additional Requirements Upon Enrollment as Probationary Midshipman/Midshipwoman
The following documents are required only after an applicant has successfully passed the admission process and is accepted for enrollment:
- Certificate of No Marriage (CENOMAR)
- National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Clearance

Priority Courses:
The PMMA Entrance Examination offers specialized maritime degree programs designed to prepare cadets for careers in the global shipping industry.
Applicants who pass the PMMA Entrance Examination and are admitted to the academy will be enrolled in one of the following bachelor’s degree programs:
- Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) – Prepares cadets to become licensed deck officers responsible for ship navigation, cargo operations, and vessel management.
- Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering (BSMarE) – Trains cadets to become licensed marine engineers who operate, maintain, and repair ship machinery and engineering systems.
Partner School:
The PMMA Entrance Examination does not have a list of partner schools because successful applicants will study directly at the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy.
PMMA is a state maritime academy that provides its own academic programs and training, rather than partnering with other colleges or universities.
Application Deadline:
Applicants planning to take the PMMA Entrance Examination should take note of the official application deadline and examination schedule to complete all requirements on time. The application period is now closed, but we will update this page once the next application schedule is officially announced.
Applicants must submit their PMMA Entrance Examination application on or before January 10, 2026.
The PMMA Entrance Examination is scheduled to be held on January 31, 2026, the last Saturday of January.
How to Apply:
Applying for the PMMA Entrance Examination is completed online through the PMMA Admissions Portal. Follow the steps below to successfully submit your application.
Step 1: Visit the PMMA Admissions Portal and create a new account by filling out all the required information. Verify your email address through the confirmation message sent to your inbox, then log in to your account.
Note: Previous applicants must create a new account due to updates to the admissions system.
Step 2: Choose the testing center that is most convenient for you. Review your selection carefully before proceeding.
Important Reminder: Your selected testing center cannot be changed once your application has been submitted.
Step 3: Select your highest educational attainment, provide all the required information, and upload the necessary documents. Ensure that all uploaded files are clear, complete, and accurate.
Step 4: Carefully review all the information you entered to ensure it is complete and error-free. Once you have confirmed that everything is correct, submit your application.
Step 5: After your application has been evaluated, the PMMA Admissions Office will issue your test permit. Your test permit number will also serve as your room and seat assignment during the examination.

Important reminder: Keep your test permit and permit number in a safe place, as you will need them on the day of the PMMA Entrance Examination.
